Kate Floyd
Blue Door Teacher
The beautiful countryside of the Western district of Victoria is where Kate’s life began. Kate’s love of learning was instilled through her family paradigm and was reinforced during her tutelage at Bendigo College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Art, she moved to the north coast of New South Wales and established a business as a Studio Artist. Kate started working privately as well as at the local Primary School, supporting teachers and students in both reading and art. As her enjoyment in teaching grew, she chose to return to the University of New England to qualify as a Secondary School Visual Arts Teacher. Kate taught broadly across the curriculum, in Humanities and Social Sciences in both Primary and Secondary Schools.
In recent years, Kate held a position as a Learning Support Teacher, working individually with students requiring special provisions. She acknowledges that many students are unable to access the mainstream education program due to a range of factors, some of which may also be exacerbated in the classroom environment.
Kate believes strongly that the opportunity for success may be reached through shared knowledge between student and teacher and through understanding of an individual student’s strengths and learning styles.
Throughout Kate’s teaching experiences, she has always fostered trust and worked collaboratively with students and their families to build pathways, which support the students and enable them to access their curriculum and really enjoy learning.
